The buffoon is the hallmark of the mediaeval culture of laughter that systematically turned the world bottom-up: the King is Fool! He challenged the divine order and, jingling with bells, rang modern times in. "The Ship of Fools" was the central part of a carnavalesque tradition that inspired artists like Hieronymus Bosch and Albrecht Durer and gave birth to a divina satira called The Shyp Of Folys, the world's first bestseller (Sebastian Brant, Basel, 1494). It became a timeless image of mankind adrift, of humanity abandoning God. Humanity no longer was the centre of the universe or Europe the centre of the world. This extravagant and systematic reversal of social conventions and relations incited a revolutionary development that would encompass the continents and would explode the sciences. That is the contribution of the carnavalesque tradition to the cultural heritage of Europe and Europe s contribution to the cultural heritage of humanity.
In May 2004 Azart presented to the President of the Council in Europe a bronze bell to silence her noisy members. Its' sound symbols the futility of power and serves as a monument of the 'homo ludens' singing a praise to the folly of humanity.
The bell is made from one piece by Eric Don ( http://www.ericdon.nl )after the drawing of Hieronymus Bosch "The Masquerade Man and the Burning Ship". The inscription are the first 3 lines of The Shyp of Folys of Sebastian Brant:
Im Narrentanz voran ich gehe,
Da ich viel Bucher um mich sehe,
Die ich nicht lese und verstehe.
In dunc' s dance I take the lead
Books useless, numerous my creed,
Which I can't understand nor read
De Markarade-man en het Brandend Narrenschip
De nar is het beeldmerk van de middeleeuwse spot- en lachcultuur die systematisch de wereld op zijn kop zette: de koning is een zot! Hij verstoorde rinkelend God's orde en luidde de daarmee de moderne tijd in. Het narrenschip werd het symbool van 'de Mensheid-op-Drift', van de maatschappij die beseft haar koers kwijt te zijn. De mens was niet langer het middelpunt van het heelal noch Europa het centrum van de wereld. Deze twijfel maakte de revolutionaire expansie mogelijk die de continenten zou omspannen en de wetenschap deed exploderen. Dit is de bijdrage van de carnavaleske traditie in de geschiedenis van Europa en de Europese bijdrage aan het erfgoed der mensheid.
Op initiatief van het eigentijdse narrenschip Azart en ter gelegenheid van het afscheid van het Nederlands voorzitterschap van de Raad van Europa bood Minister Bot op 12 Mei 2004 aan zijn opvolger een monumentale narrenschel aan die dient om rumoerige lidstaten tot kalmte te manen. Het is een machtssymbool dat de klank laat horen die de vergankelijkheid van de macht symboliseert en tegelijk een monument van de spelende mens die een loflied zingt op de zotheid.
De bel werd uit een stuk door Eric Don gemaakt naar de pentekening De Markarade-man en het Brandend Narrenschip van Jeroen Bos. De inscriptie luidt als de eerste drie regels van "Das Narrenschiff" (Sebastian Brant, 1494), 's-werelds eerste bestseller:
Im Narrentanz voran ich gehe,

L Homme de Mascarade et la Nef des Fous en Feu
"La Nef des Fous" (Das Narrenschiff, Sebastian Brant, 1494) fut le premier bestseller dans l' histoire de la litterature, recu comme une divina satira. C'etait alors l'apoge d'une tradition carnavalesque autour d' un renversement des identites: Le Roi est fou! La Nef des Fous est devenue l'image universelle de l'humanite la derive, d'une societe qui realize d'avoir perdu sa route. Au son de cloche le bouffon a renverse l'ordre divin, annoncant la modernite. Ces notions transverses ont bouleverse l'Europe en declenchant une explosion du savoir et des sciences. Telle est la contribution de la tradition carnavalesque au patrimoine europeen et de l'Europe au patrimoine humain.
Le President du Conseil de l'Europe a recu une sculpture monumentale qui rappelle la fragilite du pouvoir. C'est un joyau commeratif du "homo ludens" qui entonne un eloge de la folie.
La cloche est une sculpture en bronze faite par Eric Don et inspiree du dessin "L'Homme de Mascarade et la Nef des Fous en Feu" de Hieronymus Bosch. L'inscription reprend les trois lignes sur lesquelles s' ouvre Das Narrenschiff:
Im Narrentanz voran ich gehe, Da ich viel Bucher um mich sehe, Die ich nicht lese und verstehe.

El Hombre Mascerado y el Barco Quemandose
"El Barco de los Necios" (Das Narrenschiff, Sebastian Brant, 1494) fue recebido como una 'divina satira' que se ha convertido en el primero bestseller en la historia de la literatura. Al mismo tiempo se convertio en el colmo de una tradicion carnavalesca de la revolucion de valores: El Rey esta Loco! El Barco de los Locos se ha desarrollado en un imagen universal de la humanidad a la deriva, de una sociedad que esta descubriendo de haber perduto su rumbo. Tintineando, el bufon ha puesto el orden divino boca abajo, annunciando la modernidad. Esas ideas transversas han perturbado a Europa, excitandola a una explosion de las ciencias. Esto es la contribución que ha entregado la tradicion carnavalesca al patrimonio europeo y que Europa ha pasado al patrimonio humano.
El Presidente del Consejo de Europa ha recibido en mayo 2004 una escultura monumental que simboliza la fragilidad del poder y que sirve a silenciar los Estados-miembros demasiado agitados. Es un joya commemorativa del 'homo ludens' quien canta un elogio a la locura.
La campana es una escultura en bronce, hecha por Eric Don e inspirada en el dibujo "El Hombre Mascerado y el Barco Quemandose" de Jeronimo Bosco. La inscripcion cita las tres primeras lineas del Das Narrenschiff:
